It has been a good semester and I have learned a lot about this program. With this knowledge I have been able to improve my business and take on a lot more flyer, business card, banner, etc design jobs. My favorite part of this design is a tie between the picture of my daughter and using the invisible circle to make the text wrap around my tree.
So long and thanks for all the fish.
For this post I found a quote that sums up what designers really do. It is easy to use templates, it is easy to stay within the norms of design but true designers take the same tools that everyone else have access to and break out into the deep waters. Designers change the status quo and create designs that have never been thought of before. Here is to all of you being a boat away from the safety of shore.
I did not realize that interactive pdfs were made with InDesign. Most of the forms that I use for people are based in HTML and JAVA. I will use this with many of my clients to build forms that can be filled out and saved as a pdf.
Again with a link for those that need design inspiration. I am a webdesigner by trade so a lot of my time is looking at other websites for design trends. A great website to see these trends is:
This website picks some of the best websites on the web on a weekly basis. I use this site weekly to keep up to date with where designs on the web are going so that I can give my customers the most up to date designs.
Today I have a website that helps me get ideas for layouts. There is a large selection of templates that you can purchase but I just look through them to get design cues and then mimic those cues. If you join their site for free they give templates, fonts, vector images, etc every week. Hope this helps someone else as much as it helps me.
I enjoy using blending modes and seeing how different colors blend together.
Here is my table for Job 10 describing prices to build a website. As for the table that I most like is called “Invoice Machine.” I like this style because it is a quick way of seeing what each level gives you compared to the other levels of service. A lot of software suites that I use compare their different versions in one quick readout.
It’s all in the context of a picture. I have had this on my computer for years. It reminds me that we should never make snap judgments about people. The man in this picture would be judged by most people as someone you should be careful around. The long scraggly beard, long unkempt hair, and old faded shirt tells us that he is someone who doesn’t care for himself so what would he do to me. However, in this photo the kitten looking up at him and the smile on his face makes him more approachable. Even though this may not seem to be related to design but over the years I have learned that this is a central theme in design. If we use all dark, strong colors then it will make the publication unapproachable for most people. Also if you use backgrounds of broken, unattractive textures then most people will stay clear. This is why I think Apple uses whites and grays. They are instantly approachable to the masses. Light colors tell people that there are no secrets and it is a safe place while dark colors imply secrets and dangers. But this is my personal opinion, take it or leave it.
